Incorporated in the year 2000, Rancho Santa Margarita is one of Orange County’s youngest cities. This affluent, master-planned community is located on the foothills of the picturesque Santa Ana Mountains, occupying a total area of nearly 13 square miles. The affluent city is located near Mission Viejo, Coto de Caza, and Trabuco Canyon, among others. It currently has a population of about 49,000 permanent residents.

The first inhabitants of Rancho Santa Margarita were said to be the Shoshonean Native Americans. The land was later on purchased by Don Juan Forster, one of the largest landowners in California, who renamed it “La Victoria.” When Rancho Santa Margarita was incorporated on January 1, 2000, it became the 33rd city in Orange County.
